Monticelli 9th overall and 11th in the World Standings

Glenn Coldenhoff of the Standing Construct KTM team managed to secure third spot in the final MXGP motocross world championship standings. He had to claw back 12 points on the third-placed man Gautier Paulin during the last GP of the season in Shanghai, China, which he managed to accomplish.

After four podium finishes in succession, Coldenhoff was brimming with confidence going into the Chinese round. This clearly showed from the very first session, and indeed in the qualifying race, which Coldenhoff won to claim the pole position. Ivo Monticelli also found himself amongst the top ranks, holding steady in fifth spot in the qualifying heat until Jeffrey Herlings passed him near the end of the race.

Coldenhoff claimed the holeshot in race one, giving himself a wonderful race platform. Despite pressure from Tim Gajser and Jeffrey Herlings, he kept his cool and rode to the win. This moved him into third spot in the world championship standings, with a single point advantage over Paulin. Monticelli was sixth initially, but lost his rhythm somewhat later in the race, eventually finishing tenth.

Coldenhoff came out on the attack right at the start of race two, again surging into the lead. He kept his lead for most of the race, only yielding to Herlings in the penultimate lap. This gave him second overall for the GP, and confirmed his third spot in the world standings. Monticelli had a solid race, starting just inside the top ten, and eventually finishing eighth. This yielded him ninth overall for the day and 11th in the world standings.

Coldenhoff will represent the Dutch team on home soil in two weeks' time as they go for overall glory in the Motocross of Nations at Assen. Also Monticelli will be in action at the MX of Nations as he is racing for team Italy.
